Storm over Lake Albert, October 2007
My story
Everyone has to start somewhere, and my photographic story started in 2006 with a Fujifilm S6500 and my trusty Mongoose mountain bike. Most afternoons I could be found down by Lake Albert documenting what caught my eye, which throughout the late 2000's was often subjects of drought until finally in 2010 the drought broke.
In 2012 I took a giant leap and decided to follow my heart and switch careers from working as a joiner making kitchens to studying photography fulltime at Charles Sturt University. My time at CSU made me dig deeper past the superficial side of photography into what lies beneath. My study guided me to always ask the question why does this photo need to exist? and what is it trying to say?
Something else that I gained through my study was exploring film photography and the darkroom. To me being in the darkroom is the closest thing people can experience to magic, literally watching a blank piece of paper develop into an image before your eyes. Film photography is still something I love today so please check out the film section of my portfolio. I also buy, sell and collect film cameras and memorabilia.
Nowadays, I have a wonderful family with 2 young children, and I fit in as much photography as I can around my family and work commitments.
My focus in photography has always been to capture the interesting in the everyday, to notice the small moments in life that we may walk past everyday but rarely slow down to appreciate.
If you are interested in either working with me of just want to chat photography, please shoot me a message via the contact page of my website.
